Sports Injury? 3 Ways To Treat Injury And Speed Recovery

For a sports man, sports injury is a common thing. However, the severity of the injury is the real deciding factor to know to what extend the body is affected by the injury. Whenever there is an injury from sports, here are some general treatment methods that will help you to recover from the injury soon.

Price Therapy

If you get only a minor injury like sprains or strains, then it is easy to take the treatment at home by following some simple steps. Price therapy includes protection, rest, ice, compression, and elevation. First you need to protect the areas where injury is.

The next thing you need to do is to ensure enough rest taken to get well soon and to heal the injury. When you take rest, do not walk much or use a walking stick to walk around. Also, enough support of a sling on your hand if your hand is injured. If more pain is there, you can apply ice pack in the affected area for 20 minutes. Repeat this every 2-3 hours to get better result.

To slow down swelling, it is good to use compression bandages. It is also a good idea to keep the injured body part above the level of your heart. This will increase blood circulation to your body and thereby swelling will be reduced.

Medication

Another way to treat your sports injury is to take pain killers or the use of non steroid anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) will be helpful in reducing the pain to a greater extend. However, it is not good to use aspirin for children below 16 years.

Prevent mobility in affected area

In order to ensure complete rest to the affected or injured area, the best thing to do is to ensure that you have immobilized the affected area. This will reduce further damage to the existing injury. You can use slings or casts for keeping the affected area safe and harmless.

This will ease and fasten the process of healing. Moreover, you will get much pain when you are in immobilization.

Physiotherapy

If you are suffering from an injury for a long time, then doing Physiotherapy is a good option to heal it faster.  In physiotherapy there are several healing techniques such as massages, exercises to increase your movement, give strength to the muscles surrounded etc.

This will help you to return back to your normal activity soon. Physiotherapy will also help to prevent injury to recur.

Corticosteroid injections

If the injury is getting severe with pain, there will be a need for corticosteroid injections. By taking this injection, you will be able to get reduction in your pain at least for a short period.  If pain is continuing you can take the injection every month, however, it is not safe to use it due to its side effects.

Surgery

Surgery is the extreme case and not all the injury requires a surgery. If the injury is severe like broken bones, you may require going ahead with surgery. However doctors may prescribe about other options like realignment of bones etc to avoid the need for operation. This is however possible only in less severe cases.

Recovery

The time of recovery is based on the type of the injury you have. You may need to take rest from few weeks to few months to heal the injury. You can return to previous activities only when you are completely recovered.

You can also do gentle exercises to improve your movement and when the movement is easier, your pain will also get reduced. With the support of a physiotherapist, you can do stretching or strengthening exercises.
