My first trade completed this morning! "3/11/2009 9:45:49 AM Order Filled You have bought 2 share(s) of O JUL 2009 350 Call. @0.625" That means I have an option to buy 10,000 bushels of oats for $3.50 a bushel by the end of the 3rd week of June. Currently it's trading for around $2.00. So this is my hedge against the coming inflation.

finally OptionsXpress.com is going to allow me to trade commodity options even though I have basically zero net worth. I had to convince them I'm not going to exercise any options, only liquidate any profitable ones and allow the rest to expire worthless.

opened an account at optionsxpress, not sure yet how to trade commodity options there or if it's even possible
