Calling all writers!

Ever think "one day I'll write a book"?   Well, that one day is November 1 and the start of Nanowrimo for 2007.   Nanowrimo or National Novel Writing Month takes place every November with one simple challenge - write 50,000 words of a fiction novel  between November 1 and November 30.   (There is a web site and absolutely no charge to join.  It's free.  http://www.nanowrimo.org)

Sounds insane?  Yeah, it is.  But there are support groups, forums, and possible even local write-ins in your area. The challenge is to just do it.  Sit down and write.  Even if you only get a few thousands words, those are a thousand words you didn't have written before November 1.

It doesn't have to be a well-written novel.  The point of Nanowrimo is not to edit but to write.  You can edit in January.  In November you just keep writing and moving the story forward.  No one ever has to read the novel unless or until you want them to.   Nanowrimo does not read or judge novels.  However, quite a few Nanowrimo novels have been edited, submitted and published.  (I turned my 2005 effort into a novella and sold it to a publisher.)

Basic rules
- you must start a brand new novel on November 1 (don't try to finish something)
- it must be a fiction and a novel (both those are up to interpretation)
- you must try to write 50,000 words
- you should have fun (most of us do)

This sounds very interesting, and I am going to pass it along to my husband. He has started a novel but has gone no where with it. This will encourage him. I write self-help books and all other kinds of interesting articles. I create ebooks and then sell them. Great idea and thanks for sharing, how are you doing on this?
